Paavo Tynell table lamp
This table lamp, model 9227, was designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Idman in Finland during the 1950s. The lamp features a brass stem and base paired with a black lacquered metal shade shaped in a conical form. A perforated pattern along the lower edge of the shade allows diffused light to escape, creating a soft ambient glow while minimizing direct glare.
The design exemplifies Tynell’s characteristic blend of functional lighting and elegant detail. The adjustable arm and shade enable directional lighting, making it well-suited for desk or reading purposes. The brass components exhibit a natural patina that reflects the lamp’s vintage age while maintaining its original character.
Paavo Tynell was a pioneering Finnish lighting designer, celebrated for his refined metalwork and the integration of decorative elements within modernist lighting designs. His collaborations with manufacturers like Idman and Taito resulted in some of the most sought-after Scandinavian lighting pieces from the mid-century era. Idman, in particular, was known for producing lamps that skillfully balanced practicality and aesthetic sophistication.
This lamp is preserved in original condition, with patina on the brass surfaces that enhance its vintage appeal. It measures 22.5 cm in width, 31 cm in depth, and 46 cm in height (8.9 by 12.2 by 18.1 inches), offering a compact yet elegant lighting solution.
