Information

This rare pair of easy chairs, model FD-134 “Boomerang” designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen and produced by France & Daverkosen in Denmark during the 1950s, is a distinguished example of Scandinavian mid-century modern design. The chairs showcase a harmonious blend of organic forms and precise craftsmanship, reflecting the era’s commitment to both beauty and functionality.

The sculptural teak frames possess a warm, natural patina that accentuates the wood’s rich tones. The distinctively shaped armrests taper slightly at the ends and integrate seamlessly into the overall structure, contributing to the chair’s lightweight and floating appearance. The open backrest, supported by horizontal slats, balances structural stability with an airy aesthetic. Slender, angled brass legs complete the design, reinforcing the boomerang-inspired silhouette that lends the model its name.

The upholstery has been newly restored in Gabriel Savak Plain fabric, a design by Tove Kindt-Larsen. The neutral fabric tone complements the teak’s warmth while maintaining the chair’s original design integrity. The cushions are tailored for both visual refinement and comfort.

France & Daverkosen, a notable Danish manufacturer of the mid-century period, was recognized for its superior woodworking and collaborations with leading designers. Hvidt and Mølgaard-Nielsen were pioneers in industrialized Danish furniture, known for their innovative use of modular construction and materials.

These chairs embody the principles of clean lines, functional aesthetics, and high-quality materials that define Scandinavian modernism. Their dimensions are approximately 66 cm in width, 80 cm in depth, and 80 cm in height (26 x 31.5 x 31.5 inches), with a seat height of 39 cm (15.4 inches), making them well-proportioned and elegant additions to any interior.
