Peter Hvidt side table

This rare side or tray table, model no. 1775, was designed by Peter Hvidt and produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark in 1943. Executed in solid walnut, the table displays a warm, even tone with a fine grain that emphasizes the quality of the wood. The design features a rectangular top with softly raised edges, carefully rounded corners, and circular cut-outs at each corner where the legs meet the surface, a detail that demonstrates both precision craftsmanship and an interest in refined joinery.

The table rests on slender, tapered legs, reinforced by horizontal stretchers, which provide stability while keeping the overall appearance light and balanced. The construction reveals Hvidt’s early exploration of functional elegance, where structural clarity is combined with subtle decorative detailing. Peter Hvidt, active from the 1940s onward, became one of the central figures in Danish modern design, known for both architectural and furniture works.
