Pierre Forssell decanter
This brass decanter was designed by Pierre Forssell and produced by Skultuna in Sweden during the 1950s. It embodies the principles of Scandinavian modernist design through its minimalist form, functional elegance, and exceptional craftsmanship. The decanter features an oval-shaped body with smoothly curved surfaces, complemented by a removable cylindrical stopper. The pouring spout is cleverly integrated and concealed when the stopper is in place, maintaining the piece’s seamless and sculptural aesthetic.
Pierre Forssell was a Swedish designer renowned for his refined metalwork, particularly in brass and stainless steel. His designs strike a balance between utilitarian function and sculptural form, elevating everyday objects into works of art. Skultuna, established in 1607, is one of Sweden’s most prestigious brass manufacturers, celebrated for its longstanding tradition of quality craftsmanship and collaborations with prominent designers.
The decanter displays a rich, aged patina on its brass surface, enhancing its character and historic appeal. The base is marked with the Skultuna insignia and Forssell’s signature, attesting to its authenticity and design pedigree. Its dimensions are approximately 11.5 cm in width (4.5 inches), 6 cm in depth (2.4 inches), and 17.5 cm in height (6.9 inches).
