Pierre Forssell decanter
This mid-century Scandinavian Modern decanter, designed by Pierre Forssell and produced by Skultuna in Sweden during the 1950s, exemplifies a refined balance of sculptural form and functional design. The decanter features an asymmetrical brass body with a gracefully curved silhouette that tapers toward the top. A cylindrical wooden stopper fits snugly into the narrow brass neck, creating a harmonious contrast between the warm wood and polished metal surfaces.
The brass has developed a natural patina over time, enhancing the piece’s depth and vintage character. This patina underscores Skultuna’s tradition of craftsmanship, as the company—established in 1607—is renowned for producing high-quality brassware that merges historic techniques with modernist design principles. Pierre Forssell’s design approach is evident here in the clean lines and the striking interplay between materials, resulting in an object that is both functional and visually compelling.
The decanter measures 15 cm in width, 10 cm in depth, and 18.5 cm in height (5.9 x 3.9 x 7.3 inches), making it a distinctive example of mid-century Scandinavian brass design.
