Poul Henningsen ceiling lamp
This very rare PH-1/1 Cascade ceiling lamp was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. It is an exceptional example of early modernist lighting design, embodying Henningsen’s pioneering approach to glare-free, layered illumination.
The lamp features an elegant cascade of nine amber-colored glass shades arranged around a central brass fixture. Each shade is composed of tiered, rounded forms that softly diffuse light, creating a warm, inviting glow. The amber glass provides a distinctive coloration that enhances the atmosphere of any interior, while the brass structure exhibits a patinated finish that adds to the vintage authenticity of the piece.
Poul Henningsen (1894–1967) was a leading figure in Danish design and lighting innovation, renowned for his scientific approach to light distribution and his collaborations with Louis Poulsen. The PH series, to which this model belongs, revolutionized lighting by using multiple shades to control glare and direct light effectively, resulting in comfortable and aesthetically refined illumination.
This PH-1/1 Cascade lamp measures 67 cm in diameter and 155 cm in total height, making it a substantial and striking fixture suitable for larger interiors. The lamp is in good vintage condition, with signs of age consistent with its era, including a natural patina on the brass and well-preserved glass shades free from visible cracks or damage.
