Information

This rare floor lamp PH-3/2 is an early and significant example of Poul Henningsen’s groundbreaking lighting design, produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. The lamp exemplifies Henningsen’s pioneering philosophy of glare-free illumination, achieved through his innovative three-shade system. The top shade is crafted from yellow and white zinc, exhibiting a subtly aged surface that adds character and evidences the lamp’s vintage origin. Below this, the lower diffusers consist of single-layer opaline glass, which work together to produce a soft, evenly dispersed light that reduces harsh shadows and glare.

The lamp’s structure features a gently curved stem, lacquered in black and leaning slightly backward, contributing to a dynamic, sculptural profile that balances both aesthetic appeal and practical function. The round metal base is weighted to ensure stability and shows a worn patina consistent with the lamp’s age, reinforcing its authenticity and history as a mid-century Danish design classic.

Poul Henningsen’s work with Louis Poulsen remains influential for its technical innovation and timeless style, and the PH-3/2 floor lamp stands as a testament to his mastery of form, function, and atmospheric lighting.

The lamp measures 30 cm in width and depth (11.8 inches) and has a height of 150.5 cm (59.3 inches).
