Information

This wall-mounted lamp is the rare model PH-1, designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. It is constructed with a browned brass arm and wall plate combined with three original glass shades in a warm yellow tone. The shade assembly follows Henningsen’s signature three-shade system, designed to distribute light evenly and prevent glare by carefully controlling the reflection and diffusion of the bulb’s light. The result is a soft, comfortable illumination ideal for both functional and atmospheric purposes.

The lamp features a gracefully curved wall arm in darkened brass, providing a subtle contrast to the glossy yellow glass shades. The three shades are graduated in size, with the largest shade on top and the smallest at the bottom, forming a visually balanced and functional composition that directs light both downward and outward. The original finish shows gentle wear consistent with age, including a natural patina on the brass and minor surface marks on the glass, all contributing to its authentic vintage character.

Poul Henningsen (1894–1967) was a pioneering Danish designer and architect, known for his innovative approach to lighting design. He collaborated with Louis Poulsen from the 1920s onward, developing a series of lamps that revolutionized lighting design by focusing on glare-free illumination and harmonious light distribution. The PH-1 wall lamp is part of this groundbreaking series and represents an early and collectible example of Henningsen’s work, which continues to influence lighting design worldwide.
