Information

Rare and highly unusual pair of wall lamps model PH-2/2 designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. The lamps feature a distinctive three-shade system executed in amber coloured glass combined with richly patinated browned brass, creating a warm and atmospheric interpretation of Henningsen’s iconic glare-free lighting philosophy.

The organically curved wall arm and compact proportions give the lamps an elegant architectural character while the layered amber glass shades diffuse the light into a soft and highly ambient glow. When illuminated, the shades produce a deep golden tone that emphasizes the sculptural quality of the design and the refined interplay between material, reflection, and shadow. The browned brass surfaces have developed an attractive aged patina over time, further enhancing the historical character of the pieces.

According to provenance, the lamps originate from the private collection of a former Louis Poulsen employee. The frame construction is believed to have been produced as a prototype at Lauritz Henriksen’s metal workshop prior to 1941, before Louis Poulsen assumed production. The model was reportedly rejected for serial manufacture and later remained within the former employee’s collection when Louis Poulsen relocated to Sluseholmen in Copenhagen in 1968. As such, the lamps represent a rare and historically interesting variation connected to the early development of Poul Henningsen’s lighting designs.

An exceptionally rare surviving pair combining functionalist Danish lighting design with unique prototype history and strong collector appeal.

Good vintage condition with small signs of age and use. Minor chip damage to parts of the glass shades. The brass surfaces show natural patina and wear consistent with age.
