Information

This rare wall lamp, model PH-1/1, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. It is a quintessential example of Henningsen’s pioneering approach to lighting design, combining functional precision with a refined aesthetic language that defined Scandinavian modernism in the early 20th century.

The lamp features Henningsen’s characteristic three-shade system, developed to provide a soft, glare-free light while optimizing the distribution and diffusion of illumination. The shades are crafted from original white opaline glass, arranged in a graduated, tiered formation that enhances both functionality and visual balance. The arm is flexible, allowing for adjustable positioning, and is constructed from solid brass that has developed a warm patina over time, highlighting its age and authenticity.

The combination of materials—polished brass and opaline glass—reflects the high-quality craftsmanship for which Louis Poulsen became known. The elegant, understated design and adjustable functionality made the PH-1/1 a popular choice for both private and public interiors, contributing significantly to the evolution of Scandinavian lighting design.

This piece is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with its period.

Dimensions are 20 cm wide, 26 cm deep, and 20 cm high (7.9 x 10.2 x 7.9 in)
