Severin Hansen bedside tables
This pair of freestanding bedside tables was designed by Severin Hansen and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1950s. Executed in rosewood with a woven cane shelf, the design displays Hansen’s characteristic precision in joinery and proportion. The sharply tapered legs meet the frame with seamless mitred joints, a detail that defines much of his furniture and exemplifies the refinement of Danish cabinetmaking at mid-century.
The rosewood surfaces present deep reddish-brown tones with a highly expressive grain pattern that emphasizes the natural variation of the material. The lower shelf, made of handwoven cane, adds a contrasting lightness and textural warmth to the composition. The tables include a single drawer with a clean front and integrated handle detail, maintaining the minimalist aesthetic and functional clarity typical of Hansen’s designs.
The condition is excellent vintage with minimal traces of wear, carefully restored to preserve the natural sheen of the wood and the integrity of the woven cane. The craftsmanship and materials reflect the quality associated with Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, a workshop renowned for its collaboration with leading Danish designers and for its use of fine hardwoods and precise construction methods. The pieces were retailed through Illums Bolighus in Copenhagen, one of the most prominent venues for Scandinavian modern design.
