The freestanding desk, designed by Severin Hansen and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1950s, is a refined example of mid-century Scandinavian modern craftsmanship. Constructed in rosewood, the desk exhibits a sleek and minimalist form with Hansen’s characteristic attention to precise joinery. The sharply tapered legs and beveled edges emphasize the geometric clarity of the design, contributing to a sophisticated yet functional aesthetic.
Severin Hansen (1917–1985) was a Danish furniture designer known for his exceptional woodwork and clean, architectural lines. His pieces often feature mitred joints and an understated elegance, which align with the principles of Danish modernism. Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, a well-regarded Danish manufacturer, was responsible for producing many of Hansen’s designs, ensuring high-quality execution with fine materials.
The desk includes four integrated drawers with recessed, minimalist handles, maintaining the visual purity of the piece. The rosewood surface features a well-preserved grain pattern with a deep, warm tone. The desk remains in excellent vintage condition, with slight patina and minor wear consistent with its age. The dimensions are 142.5 cm in width, 75 cm in depth, and 72 cm in height (56.1 x 29.5 x 28.3 inches).
