Information

This rare mid-century sideboard, by an unknown Danish designer and produced in Denmark during the 1960s, exemplifies the refined balance of minimalist construction and material sophistication characteristic of Scandinavian furniture from the period. The piece combines rich rosewood with inset panels clad in black leather, offering both visual contrast and textural complexity.

The carcass is made from solid and veneered rosewood, showcasing the dark reddish-brown tones and prominent swirling grain patterns that define the wood. The cabinet has a low, elongated profile with an emphasis on horizontal lines and open frame ends that lighten the visual footprint. The sliding doors are framed in rosewood and faced with black leather panels, providing a soft matte finish to the front while also enhancing acoustic dampening when in use. This combination of leather and wood was a favored aesthetic in high-end Danish furniture of the 1960s, representing understated luxury and elegance.

Inside, the cabinet includes three sliding doors, each clad in black leather, revealing adjustable shelving and open compartments. The outer bays feature fixed side shelves, while the central section offers versatile storage space. The doors glide smoothly within recessed grooves, preserving the sideboard’s uninterrupted and sleek silhouette.

The frame is composed of squared, continuous uprights that wrap around the side panels, creating a rectilinear base. This design not only offers structural support but also serves as a design motif, integrating seamlessly with the cabinet sides for architectural clarity.

The sideboard measures 180 cm in width, 55 cm in depth, and 70 cm in height (approximately 70.9 x 21.7 x 27.6 inches). It is in very good vintage condition, with light signs of wear consistent with age and use. The leather and wood surfaces have been well maintained or lightly restored, preserving the original character and finish of the piece.
