Information

This Art Deco table lamp, produced in Sweden during the 1930s, is an elegant and understated example of Scandinavian decorative lighting from the interwar period. Although the designer remains unknown, the lamp typifies the streamlined modern aesthetic of the era, blending continental European and Nordic interpretations of the Art Deco movement.

The lamp features a domed metal shade in white lacquer, which is softly curved and slightly overhanging the base. This design allows the light to be diffused downward in a controlled, ambient fashion. The shade has developed a lightly patinated surface, with minor wear and spotting consistent with age, which adds to its authentic period character. The central shaft is a tapering wooden column with a warm mid-tone finish, positioned between vertically fluted brass elements at the top and bottom. These brass details provide both structural support and ornamental enhancement. The circular base is made of darkened brass, with a raised perimeter edge, resting on four stylized feet. A small ivory-colored push-button switch is mounted on the base for ease of operation.

This lamp exemplifies the fusion of geometric form and material contrast that was characteristic of Scandinavian Art Deco. Its modest proportions, restrained color palette, and fine detailing make it adaptable for use in both historical and contemporary interiors. The wiring has been preserved in its original vintage condition, and the socket accommodates a single bulb beneath the wide shade.

The dimensions of the lamp are 30.5 cm in diameter and 42.5 cm in height (approximately 12 x 16.7 inches).
