Table lamps
This is a rare and refined pair of Swedish table lamps produced by Elarmatur Kosta during the 1960s. These lamps feature cylindrical columns of solid brass and are fitted with new drum lampshades in deep blue velvet fabric. The overall composition emphasizes verticality and minimal ornamentation, typical of mid-century Scandinavian design while incorporating a luxurious material palette.
Each lamp is constructed with a heavy, round brass base supporting a straight cylindrical brass shaft, maintaining a cohesive geometric language. The brass exhibits a warm, aged patina with visible tonal variation and surface oxidation, consistent with careful aging and authentic to its period. The newly added shades are cylindrical in form and covered in dark blue velvet with a slight sheen, adding contrast to the reflective metallic body. When illuminated, the velvet absorbs ambient light while the brass elements reflect it, creating a dynamic interplay of surface texture and color.
The lamps are marked with the original manufacturer’s label: “Elarmatur Kosta” indicating their origin in the Swedish town of Kosta, historically renowned for its production of lighting and glassware. Elarmatur Kosta was known for high-quality metalwork and precision-engineered fittings.
Each lamp measures 35 cm in diameter and 64.5 cm in height, equivalent to approximately 13.8 inches wide and 25.4 inches tall. The pair is in excellent vintage condition.
