Taidetakomo Hakkarainen floor lamp
A very rare rustic floor lamp produced by Taidetakomo Hakkarainen in Finland during the 1930s. The piece represents an early example of Nordic artisanal ironwork, where traditional blacksmithing techniques are combined with an expressive, almost sculptural approach that anticipates later brutalist design.
The structure is entirely hand-forged in iron, displaying a rich, naturally aged surface with a varied patina of dark brown tones and subtle green oxidation. The vertical shaft is articulated with twisted sections and organic transitions, giving the lamp a dynamic, handcrafted character. Decorative elements in the form of stylized leaves and a central openwork sphere introduce a rhythmic balance along the stem, while the tripod base extends into curved, animal-like feet, emphasizing the lamp’s sculptural and almost folkloric presence.
The upper section is crowned with a detailed finial composed of leaf-shaped elements surrounding a hammered sphere, echoing the botanical motifs found throughout the piece. The lamp holder is integrated into a forged crown-like structure, maintaining consistency in material and craftsmanship.
The shade is a later but sympathetic addition, made from pleated fabric in a warm off-white tone. It is finished with decorative trim and a fringe along the lower edge, adding softness and contrast to the otherwise robust iron construction. When lit, the shade diffuses the light into a warm, atmospheric glow that highlights both the texture of the fabric and the silhouette of the forged base.
With a diameter of 50 cm (19.69 in) and a height of 174 cm (68.50 in), the lamp has a tall and elegant yet distinctly rustic presence, suitable as a statement piece in both traditional and modern interiors.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age, including surface patina and light wear to the metal and shade.
