Taidetakomo Hakkarainen mirror

The very rare wall mirror produced by Taidetakomo Hakkarainen in Finland during the 1930s is a refined example of Scandinavian Art Deco design. Constructed in bronze and mirrored glass, the frame features expressive decorative details characteristic of early 20th-century Nordic craftsmanship. The bronze structure includes twisted columnar side elements that provide a dynamic visual texture, capped with spherical and foliate finials. Most notably, the top of the frame is adorned with a sculpted figural scene in cast bronze, depicting a stylized human figure riding a fish-like creature over cresting waves. This motif suggests mythological or maritime symbolism and reflects a tradition of allegorical decoration rooted in both Nordic and classical themes.

The bronze has developed a deep, naturally aged patina that enhances the sculptural relief and highlights the depth of the casting. The mirrored glass is bordered by a narrow inset line and retains subtle age-related spotting that is consistent with the mirror’s vintage nature.

Taidetakomo Hakkarainen was a Finnish workshop known for finely crafted metalwork and decorative arts, with a focus on artisanal techniques rather than mass production.
