Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen easy chairs

This is a very rare pair of easy chairs, model Viken, designed by Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen and produced by OPE, Olof Perssons Möbler, in Sweden during the mid-20th century. The chairs are constructed from solid teak, a wood prized for its warm tone and dense grain, giving the frames a rich reddish-brown color with subtle variations that highlight the natural beauty of the material. The upholstery is in natural tan leather, which shows an authentic patina and some age-related markings, contributing to the chairs’ vintage character.

The design is distinctly Scandinavian modern, combining clarity of structure with an emphasis on comfort and material integrity. The chairs feature low, angular frames with gently tapering legs and finely curved armrests, expressing a lightness and elegance despite their robust construction. The seat and backrest cushions are fully upholstered in button-tufted leather, with a slightly reclined angle for relaxed seating. The cushions are stitched into geometric panels, enhancing the tactile and visual texture of the design.

Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen were among the leading figures in Danish modernism, known for their refined craftsmanship and harmonious blending of traditional and modern elements. Although they were primarily based in Denmark, their designs also found significant production in Sweden, particularly through OPE, a Swedish furniture maker recognized for high-quality modern designs during the 1940s through 1960s.

The condition of the chairs is very good overall, with structurally sound frames and firm cushions. The leather displays natural signs of wear such as slight discoloration and minor surface marks, typical of original vintage leather, which adds authenticity and historical value to the pieces.
