Ulla Fogelklou-Skogh mirror
This rare mirror was designed by Ulla Fogelklou-Skogh and produced by Ystad Tenn in Sweden around 1940. Executed in pewter, the mirror is an exceptional example of Scandinavian decorative arts from the mid-20th century, combining functional simplicity with refined artisanal detail.
The rectangular mirror features a wide pewter frame, with a frieze across the upper section depicting engraved figurative scenes. The composition shows a series of stylized, nude female figures accompanied by natural motifs—birds, trees, and a deer—arranged in a rhythmic sequence of movement. The engraving is characterized by precise, linear drawing and delicate incisions, creating a soft, sculptural play of light across the metal surface. The lower and side edges are left plain, emphasizing the decorative contrast between ornamentation and clean geometry.
Ulla Fogelklou-Skogh (1904–1978) was a Swedish designer associated with Ystad Tenn, a renowned pewter workshop active during the early to mid-20th century. Her work often explored mythological or nature-inspired themes rendered in a stylized modernist idiom, harmonizing the poetic expressiveness of the Swedish Grace movement with the emerging functionalist aesthetics of the 1940s.
This piece remains in good vintage condition with a rich, even patina and minor signs of age consistent with use. The pewter surface retains its natural sheen, with light wear that enhances its historical authenticity.
