Information

This glass vase was designed by Vicke Lindstrand and produced by Kosta Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1960s. It is signed “LH 1446 Kosta” confirming its authenticity and place within Kosta’s extensive mid-century glass production. The vase is crafted using the Sommerso technique, featuring a vibrant green core encased within a thick layer of clear glass, producing a striking contrast and visual depth.

The form is elongated and cylindrical, tapering gently toward the top with a softly undulating rim. The smooth, polished exterior reflects light, enhancing the internal color layering and creating complex optical effects. This design reflects Lindstrand’s signature approach, combining simplicity of form with rich visual complexity.

Vicke Lindstrand (1904–1983) was a pivotal figure in Swedish glass design, initially known for his work at Orrefors before joining Kosta in 1950. At Kosta, he was instrumental in developing sculptural and expressive glass objects that balanced modernist aesthetics with traditional Swedish craftsmanship. His designs are noted for their organic shapes and deep, saturated colors, hallmarks of the Scandinavian glass movement.

Kosta Glasbruk, established in 1742, is one of Sweden’s oldest and most respected glass manufacturers. During the mid-20th century, it gained recognition for high-quality art glass, especially under the creative influence of designers like Lindstrand.

The vase is in excellent condition with minimal wear and measures 9 centimeters in width, 6 centimeters in depth, and 29 centimeters in height (approximately 3.5 x 2.4 x 11.4 inches), representing a tall, elegant example of mid-century Scandinavian glass art.
