Information

This is a handblown art glass vase designed by Vicke Lindstrand and produced by Kosta Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1950s. The base of the vase is engraved with the signature “Kosta LH 1088” confirming both the designer and the specific model number within Lindstrand’s documented catalogue for the Kosta glassworks.

The vase exhibits a tapered cylindrical form, narrowing subtly towards the top while maintaining a rounded, weighty base. The body is composed of entirely clear glass, internally decorated with dynamic thread-like canes in varying hues of reddish brown, grey, and subtle purple tones. These fine filaments are applied in a swirling, encircling manner, creating an effect of floating movement within the transparent mass of the vase. The interplay between the linear decoration and the heavy optical quality of the glass gives the piece depth and spatial tension, characteristic of mid-century Swedish art glass.

Condition is excellent vintage with only minimal signs of use, including some expected wear on the base consistent with age. The surface remains highly polished and transparent, free from cracks or chips, preserving the original integrity of the form and decoration.

Vicke Lindstrand, active at Kosta from 1950 to 1973, was instrumental in shaping modern Swedish glass design. His work often pushed the boundaries of traditional techniques through experimental use of internal decoration and form, moving fluidly between abstract art and functional object. This vase exemplifies his approach to optical layering and linear composition, hallmarks of his mid-century period.

The dimensions of the vase are 9 cm in width, 7 cm in depth, and 23 cm in height, equivalent to approximately 3.5 inches wide, 2.8 inches deep, and 9.1 inches high.
