Vicke Lindstrand vase
This striking glass vase was designed by Vicke Lindstrand and produced by Kosta Glasbruk in Sweden during the 1960s. Lindstrand, a central figure in 20th-century Scandinavian glass art, was known for his masterful use of color layering and organic forms, combining technical innovation with sculptural elegance. His work helped position Kosta as one of the leading glassworks in Europe during the postwar period.
The vase is executed using the Sommerso technique, in which layers of colored glass are encased within a thick, clear outer shell. Deep cobalt blue and warm amber tones flow vertically through the body, creating a dynamic interplay of light and color. The subtle transitions and optical depth demonstrate Lindstrand’s precise control over form and material, while the gently tapering silhouette adds a sense of balance and refinement.
Signed “Kosta 46451 Lindstrand” on the base, this piece exemplifies the high level of craftsmanship and artistry associated with Kosta’s mid-century production. It remains in excellent vintage condition, with minor signs of use consistent with age.
