Information

A very rare height-adjustable floor lamp designed in 1928 by Vilhelm Lauritzen and Frits Schlegel, produced in the 1930s for Fritzsche’s Glashandel. The design reflects the early functionalist ideals emerging from Scandinavian modernism, where clarity of form and purposeful construction are emphasized through a restrained yet elegant composition.

The lamp is executed in patinated metal, combining a nickel-plated stem with black lacquered elements that create a refined contrast. The slender upright rises from a circular weighted base, supporting a gently curved arm that transitions seamlessly into the shade. This arched form introduces a soft, architectural line, balancing precision with a sense of fluidity.

The shade is conical, finished in black lacquer on the exterior with a white lacquered interior to optimize light reflection. Its angled orientation provides directed illumination, making the lamp well suited for reading or accent lighting. When lit, it emits a warm, focused glow, while the dark exterior maintains a graphic, understated presence within the room.

The lamp is height adjustable, allowing variation between approximately 113.5 cm and 146 cm (44.7–57.5 inches). The shade measures about 21 cm in diameter and the overall depth is approximately 39 cm (8.3 x 15.4 inches). It remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use, including wear to the lacquer and a developed patina to the metal surfaces, consistent with its period and adding to its character.
