Wall shelf
This wall-mounted shelf was produced in Sweden during the 1960s by Glas Mäster in Markaryd, a company known for its refined craftsmanship in glass and metal design. The piece is constructed from brass and white glass, forming a balanced composition that combines a reflective metallic warmth with the cool clarity of opal glass. The shelf features a streamlined brass structure with rounded corners and a continuous brass band encasing the glass top. Two brass brackets provide structural support, fixed directly to the wall for a clean, floating appearance.
The design reflects the Scandinavian modernist ideals of the postwar era, emphasizing proportion, precision, and material honesty. Glas Mäster’s production in Markaryd during this period was recognized for its use of glass in architectural and domestic applications, often integrating brass and light-reflective surfaces to achieve a sense of understated luxury. The rounded ends of the shelf soften its geometric outline, while the subtle sheen of the brass creates a refined visual contrast against the opaque white surface.
The condition is good with visible patina and small marks consistent with age and use, primarily along the brass surfaces, which retain their original finish. The glass surface is clean with minimal signs of wear.
