Wrought iron candlestick
A large wrought iron floor-standing candlestick produced in Sweden, executed in a distinctly rustic manner that reflects traditional blacksmithing practices. The form is both functional and sculptural, combining a clear vertical emphasis with a branching upper structure designed to hold multiple candles.
The candlestick is forged in solid iron with a dark brown to near-black surface, displaying a natural patina with subtle variations in tone. The central shaft is straight and slender, interrupted by a single rounded node that provides a visual break in the vertical line. The iron surface shows visible hammer marks, slight irregularities, and traces of hand-finishing, all indicative of manual production techniques.
The upper section expands into a symmetrical arrangement of curved arms, forming a candelabra-like structure. Each arm rises in a gentle arc from the central stem and terminates in a shallow, dish-shaped candle holder with an integrated spike. The holders are evenly spaced and aligned in a tiered formation, creating a balanced and rhythmic composition. The curvature of the arms contrasts with the strict verticality of the shaft, giving the piece a more dynamic silhouette.
The base is formed as a three-legged support with outward-curving feet, providing stability while maintaining a light visual footprint. The legs are forged from flat iron and slightly widened at the ends, echoing the handcrafted character seen throughout the piece.
The candlestick measures 121 cm (47.6 inches) in height, 67.5 cm (26.6 inches) in width, and 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) in depth. It remains in good condition with signs of age and use, including surface wear, minor oxidation, and variations in patina. These features are consistent with its material and production method and contribute to its authentic rustic character.
