Anders Pehrson candlestick
This is a rare floor-standing candlestick designed by Anders Pehrson and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, in the 1950s. The candlestick is constructed of black lacquered metal with a circular base, supporting a central vertical stem from which two cross-shaped arms extend. Each arm holds four candleholders finished in polished brass, and each candleholder is fitted with a clear glass chimney, giving the piece a refined and architectural appearance.
The design is both functional and sculptural, with a clear emphasis on symmetry and proportion. The combination of black lacquered metal, warm brass, and glass creates a balanced material contrast that is characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century design. The removable glass chimneys are slightly flared at the top and serve to shield the flame while enhancing the candlestick’s vertical silhouette.
Anders Pehrson (1912–1982) was an influential Swedish designer and head of Ateljé Lyktan from 1964, shaping the company’s identity and turning it into a leading Scandinavian lighting manufacturer. Although best known for his lighting designs, Pehrson’s work in candleholders and decorative accessories reflects the same functional clarity and elegance that made his lighting iconic.
This piece is a striking example of mid-century Scandinavian design, equally suited as a functional candleholder and as a decorative object in an interior.
