Anders Pehrson candlestick
A rare floor-standing candlestick model Ofir Octav, designed by Anders Pehrson in 1967 and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden. The design reflects Pehrson’s characteristic balance between functional clarity and sculptural expression, combining industrial precision with a refined decorative presence.
The structure is composed of a slender central stem in black lacquered metal, rising from a circular weighted base that provides stability while maintaining a minimal visual footprint. From the central axis, a symmetrical arrangement of horizontal and angled arms extends outward in two tiers, creating a rhythmic and geometric composition. Each arm terminates in a brass candle holder, precisely machined and softly reflective, introducing a warm metallic contrast to the matte black framework.
The candle holders are fitted with clear glass shades, each gently rounded with a slightly narrowed neck, resembling small oil lamp chimneys. These glass elements diffuse and protect the candlelight while contributing to the overall visual lightness of the piece. The repetition of these forms establishes a sense of balance and spatial harmony, with the transparent volumes interacting subtly with the surrounding structure.
At the top of the stem, a circular brass handle is integrated into the design, both as a functional detail and as a visual accent that completes the vertical composition. The interplay between brass, black lacquered metal, and glass creates a restrained yet sophisticated palette, characteristic of Scandinavian modern design from the late 1960s.
The candlestick remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. The surfaces retain their original finish, with slight patina to the brass and light marks to the lacquered metal, while the glass shades are well preserved.
