Ib Kofod-Larsen sideboard
This rare and refined sideboard, model FA-66, was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Faarup Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the height of the Scandinavian modern movement. Executed in richly figured rosewood, the sideboard is a testament to Kofod-Larsen’s ability to harmonize functional design with elegant material expression. The rosewood surfaces are defined by a dynamic and continuous grain pattern, contributing both visual depth and a warm, natural tone to the piece.
The overall form is low and rectangular, with a minimalist silhouette that emphasizes proportion and craftsmanship. The front features four compartments concealed behind sliding doors, each equipped with sculpted, integrated handles that are subtly recessed into the door fronts. These minimalist handles maintain the uninterrupted flow of the façade, reinforcing the sideboard’s modernist ethos.
Behind the doors, the interior is thoughtfully arranged with a combination of adjustable shelving and a series of fitted drawers, offering versatile storage solutions for dining ware, textiles, or personal items. The internal structure is finished with the same level of care as the exterior, underscoring the cabinetmaker’s commitment to quality.
The piece rests on tapered legs that lift the volume slightly from the ground, adding lightness to the composition and enhancing its architectural clarity. This elevated stance, combined with the refined joinery and understated detailing, exemplifies the Danish approach to mid-century cabinetry.
In excellent vintage condition, the sideboard shows only minor signs of age. The wood has developed a rich patina that enhances the natural luster of the rosewood and testifies to the piece’s careful preservation.
