Art Deco sofa

Information

This rare Art Deco sofa from the 1930s is a striking example of Scandinavian interpretation of the Art Deco style, characterized by its streamlined silhouette, low backrest, and rounded armrests. The frame is crafted from birch, with the natural wood visible along the outer edges of the sofa, forming a continuous curve from the armrests to the base. The birch exhibits a warm tone and smooth, polished surface, contributing to the sofa’s sleek, refined appearance.

The upholstery has been reupholstered in natural sheepskin, which is in excellent condition. The light beige color of the sheepskin, combined with its dense, curly texture, provides both warmth and softness, enhancing the sofa’s inviting and comfortable feel. The cushioning is seamlessly integrated into the frame, following the contours of the design without detachable cushions, maintaining a cohesive and smooth form.

This sofa exemplifies the Scandinavian approach to Art Deco, where simplicity and the use of natural materials take center stage. In contrast to the more ornate French Art Deco pieces, this design maintains a restrained aesthetic with clean lines, an emphasis on functional structure, and minimal ornamentation. The integration of natural wood and soft upholstery results in a balanced, timeless piece.

The dimensions of the sofa are 195 cm in width, 81 cm in depth, and 77 cm in height (76.8 x 31.9 x 30.3 inches), with a seat height of 44 cm (17.3 inches). A matching pair of easy chairs in the same design is also available, completing a refined and harmonious seating arrangement.
