Information

This very rare ceiling lamp, model PH-Septima 5, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. The lamp features a tiered shade assembly composed of original amber-colored glass panels arranged in a cascading formation. Each glass segment is partially frosted, diffusing light evenly while minimizing glare. The supporting frame is crafted from nickel-plated metal, providing structural stability to the layered glass shades.

Poul Henningsen, a Danish architect and designer, was a pioneer in lighting design. His collaborations with Louis Poulsen revolutionized illumination by focusing on glare-free lighting achieved through carefully engineered multi-shade systems. The PH-Septima series represents an evolution of his earlier work, employing layered glass shades to enhance both aesthetic appeal and functionality.

Louis Poulsen, established in 1874, has played a pivotal role in Scandinavian design history. Their partnership with Henningsen resulted in iconic lamps celebrated for their craftsmanship, functionality, and timeless modernist style.

This lamp embodies key principles of Danish Modernism by balancing technical innovation with organic form. The layered glass construction optimizes light diffusion, creating a warm, ambient glow. The amber-tinted glass enriches the warmth of the emitted light, while the symmetrical structure maintains a sculptural presence even when unlit.

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, showing minor signs of age-related wear consistent with its period. The glass elements remain well preserved, retaining their original translucency and warm amber color. Its dimensions are 50 cm in diameter and 37 cm in height (approximately 19.7 by 14.6 inches), with a total drop height of about 130 cm (51.2 inches) when suspended.
