Information

This rare ceiling lamp, produced in Finland in the 1950s, is designed in the manner of Paavo Tynell, one of the most influential Scandinavian lighting designers of the mid-20th century. It features a refined combination of brass and opaline glass, hallmark materials in Tynell’s elegant and functional aesthetic.

The lamp’s structure comprises a long vertical brass stem made of multiple rods, which extends downward to support six gracefully curved brass arms. Each arm holds a cylindrical opaline glass shade that diffuses light evenly, producing a soft and warm glow. Over time, the brass frame has developed a natural patina, enhancing its vintage character while preserving the warm, golden hue typical of mid-century Scandinavian design.

Paavo Tynell was renowned for blending traditional craftsmanship with modernist principles, creating lighting fixtures characterized by lightness and sophistication. His designs drew inspiration from nature and classical forms, emphasizing high-quality materials and meticulous detailing. Although this piece is unmarked, it clearly reflects his signature style and the exceptional Finnish craftsmanship of the era.

The lamp measures 66 cm in diameter and 130 cm in height (approximately 26 by 51.2 inches).
