Kay Kørbing ceiling lamps
These rare flush mount ceiling lamps, designed by Kay Kørbing and produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1960s, exemplify a distinctive Scandinavian mid-century approach to lighting. The fixtures present a strong architectural character, skillfully combining practical illumination with an industrial aesthetic.
Each lamp is constructed from brass and glass, materials chosen for their durability and refined visual contrast. The cylindrical brass housing features a perforated upper section, a hallmark of mid-century lighting design that allows for heat dissipation while adding textural interest. The lower portion of the housing is finished in black with a textured surface, complementing the warm patina of the brass. A circular glass diffuser is integrated into the base, providing controlled light dispersion and reducing glare. The open-ring design at the bottom creates a layered lighting effect that adds depth and dimension when the lamps are illuminated.
Kay Kørbing was a Danish designer recognized for his contributions to modernist lighting, often utilizing innovative material combinations and geometric forms to enhance both function and atmosphere. Lyfa, a leading Danish lighting manufacturer of the mid-century period, collaborated with prominent designers to produce high-quality fixtures that helped define Scandinavian interior design.
These lamps reflect mid-century Scandinavian principles, emphasizing clean lines, material honesty, and a harmonious balance between form and function. Each lamp measures 15 cm in diameter and 22 cm in height (5.9 x 8.7 inches), making them elegant and versatile ceiling fixtures.
