Hans-Agne Jakobsson ceiling lamp
This ceiling lamp, model T 348/9, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. The chandelier features a polished brass frame with nine arms arranged in two tiers, forming a precise geometric structure that emphasizes verticality and balance. The lamp is suspended from a long central stem, giving it an elongated profile suitable for rooms with higher ceilings.
Each of the nine light sources is encased in a smoked glass globe, giving the lamp its characteristic warm and subdued light. The brass surfaces have been preserved in good condition with minimal wear, and the glass globes show only minor signs of use. The overall design reflects Jakobsson’s approach to lighting as a means of creating atmosphere, with the tinted glass softening the light and reducing glare.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most prolific and influential lighting designers, founding his company in 1951. He became known for his ability to create lighting fixtures that combined functionality with sculptural beauty, and his work was instrumental in defining the warm, intimate character of Scandinavian interiors in the mid-20th century. His chandeliers, such as this model, are celebrated for their architectural clarity and subtle handling of materials.
This piece is an excellent example of Scandinavian mid-century lighting, combining precision engineering with atmospheric qualities. The combination of brass and smoked glass makes it visually striking while maintaining a refined and understated aesthetic.
