Desk
This rare freestanding desk, produced in Denmark during the 1960s by an unknown designer, exemplifies the minimalist and functional spirit of Scandinavian modernism. The design balances industrial materials with refined craftsmanship, embodying the clean lines and practical elegance typical of Danish mid-century work.
The rectangular desktop is finished with a matte light grey laminate surface, bordered by sharply defined black lacquered edges that accentuate the desk’s crisp profile. Four slender, tapered legs made of polished steel support the tabletop. These legs are configured in a distinctive V-shape and angled outward, enhancing the desk’s architectural openness and visual lightness while ensuring structural stability.
A key feature is the dark grey lacquered wooden drawer unit suspended beneath the right side of the desktop. The two-drawer module is recessed and mounted seamlessly, giving the appearance of floating without visible brackets, in keeping with the desk’s minimalist aesthetic.
Constructed from steel and lacquered wood, the materials reflect the industrial influences prevalent in 1960s Danish design, paired with precise joinery and finishes indicative of the era’s production standards. The desk is in very good vintage condition, showing only minor surface wear consistent with age, including slight marks on the laminate and drawer fronts.
Dimensions are 160 cm wide, 70 cm deep, and 72.5 cm high (approximately 63 x 27.6 x 28.5 inches). This piece is a fine example of Danish mid-century industrial elegance, suitable for both residential and professional interiors.
