Information

This very rare floor lamp was designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Holm Sørensen & Co in Denmark during the 1950s. The lamp features a refined combination of materials including a teak wooden stem, an adjustable brass arm, and a cast iron base. Its original pleated Le Klint shade adds a distinctive sculptural element while providing soft, evenly diffused illumination.

The design is notable for its asymmetrical form, where a gracefully curved brass arm extends from the solid teak column. The arm’s height and angle are adjustable through a brass notched mechanism integrated into the wooden frame, allowing the user to customize the lighting direction and intensity. The cast iron base anchors the lamp firmly, offering stability while maintaining a minimalist and elegant profile.

Svend Aage Holm Sørensen was a prominent Danish designer celebrated for his innovative and sculptural approach to lighting design. His work frequently combined organic shapes with industrial materials, emphasizing craftsmanship and precise detailing. Holm Sørensen & Co, his production company, was known for creating high-quality lighting fixtures that became emblematic of mid-century Scandinavian modernism.

The lamp is in well-preserved vintage condition, exhibiting minor wear consistent with its age. The brass elements have developed a natural patina that enhances the depth and character of the piece. The teak maintains a rich, warm tone, and the original Le Klint pleated shade remains intact, preserving its crisp structure and clean lines.

Measuring 38 cm in width and 60 cm in depth, the lamp’s height is adjustable between 148 and 172 cm (15 x 23.6 inches, adjustable from 58.3 to 67.7 inches), making it a versatile lighting solution with a distinctive sculptural presence.
