Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen armchairs
This is a rare and well-preserved set of six armchairs designed by Danish architect Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen, produced during the 1950s by Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik in Denmark. The design belongs to the Scandinavian modern tradition, distinguished by its clarity of structure, tactile materials, and subtle craftsmanship.
The frames are executed in solid oak and display a fluid and organic silhouette. The joinery is tight and visually understated, with rounded tenon connections at the backrest and arms. The armrests gently curve outward in a natural gesture, offering both ergonomic support and a refined formal expression. The legs are slender and taper subtly toward the base, with horizontal stretchers reinforcing the construction and contributing to the structural integrity and compositional balance.
Each chair retains its original dark brown to reddish-brown leather upholstery, which shows signs of patina and moderate wear, particularly on the seat cushions. The leather has aged gracefully, with surface creasing, softened texture, and tonal variation that reveal its authenticity and vintage character. The curved backrest panels are slightly reclined and provide enveloping lumbar support, enhancing the comfort and usability of the chairs without compromising the visual lightness of the design.
Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen was a Danish designer trained as an architect and known for his finely detailed furniture and modernist architectural sensibilities. He worked with several prestigious Danish manufacturers, including Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik, which was known for its commitment to precision cabinetmaking and small-batch production of high-end furniture. This set exemplifies Lyngfeldt Larsen’s ability to blend sculptural detailing with functional requirements.
The set is in good vintage condition. The oak frames show minor surface wear and small marks consistent with use and age. The leather is original and intact, exhibiting attractive aging and natural patina without structural damage. These armchairs would be equally suitable around a dining table, conference setting, or as individual accent chairs.
Each chair measures 62.5 cm in width, 51 cm in depth, and 79 cm in height, with a seat height of 42 cm (equivalent to 24.6 x 20.1 x 31.1 inches, seat height 16.5 inches).
