Information

This rare pair of ceiling lamps, model PH 3/3, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark. The lamps are made of copper, featuring a rich surface with natural patina that has developed over time. They are marked with “PAT. APPL.” on the fitting, indicating an early production example from the 1930s. The design is defined by a layered, circular construction, composed of three precisely proportioned shades that work together to diffuse light evenly and eliminate glare.

Poul Henningsen was one of the most influential figures in modern lighting design. His pioneering approach to light distribution, developed in the late 1920s and early 1930s, aimed to create soft, indirect illumination that enhanced interior spaces while avoiding harsh brightness. His PH series, produced in collaboration with Louis Poulsen, became foundational in Scandinavian lighting design and remains a hallmark of functionalist aesthetics.

Louis Poulsen, established in Copenhagen in the late 19th century, is one of the most renowned lighting manufacturers in the world. Their collaboration with Henningsen shaped modernist lighting design and set new technical and aesthetic standards for architectural and domestic lighting.

The lamps are in excellent vintage condition with signs of use and a beautiful patina that reflects their age and authenticity. They represent a significant piece of Scandinavian mid-century design history, combining functional innovation with refined materiality and timeless form.

Dimensions are 29 cm wide, 29 cm deep, and 29 cm high (11.4 x 11.4 x 11.4 in)
