Hans Wegner desk

This rare ladies desk was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Ry Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. Designed with a modest scale, the desk was intended as a personal writing table or a compact workstation. The top is rectangular and crafted from teak, with a softly rounded edge profile that adds a gentle touch to the overall design. The desk is supported by four tapered solid oak legs, creating a contrasting material composition that highlights Wegner’s nuanced approach to proportion and detailing.

The frontal apron of the desk features a single shallow drawer, centrally positioned and lockable, with a brass keyhole fitting and two circular wooden knobs. The drawer is constructed using dovetail joints and is lined with light-toned wood, further demonstrating the high level of craftsmanship associated with Ry Møbler’s production standards. The legs are subtly inset, contributing to the desk’s light and elegant visual appearance while ensuring structural stability.

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) was a key figure in mid-century Danish design, bringing a sculptural and organic sensibility to modern functionalism.
