Information

This rare pair of “Sirocco” easy chairs was designed by Arne Norell in 1964 and produced by Arne Norell AB in Aneby, Sweden. Each chair is constructed from solid rosewood with seat and back in thick cognac brown saddle leather, fastened by adjustable brass buckles and straps. The design follows the concept of a self-supporting structure, where the tension of the leather components provides stability without the use of glue or screws in the main frame.

The “Sirocco” model, sometimes referred to as a safari chair, exemplifies Norell’s interest in combining traditional craftsmanship with modern comfort and portability. Inspired by campaign furniture and Danish modern design, the chair merges organic materiality with a relaxed, low-slung profile. The exposed joinery, rounded edges, and finely stitched leather detailing emphasize both precision and warmth, characteristic of Scandinavian modern design from the 1960s.

Arne Norell (1917–1971) was known for his innovative use of leather, wood, and metal, as well as his emphasis on comfort and casual elegance. The Sirocco chair remains one of his most celebrated designs, admired for its honest construction and balanced proportions.

This pair is in excellent vintage condition with visible signs of age and use, including a beautiful natural patina to the leather and wood. The brass fittings have developed a warm tone consistent with age.

Dimensions: 66 cm wide, 66 cm deep, and 72 cm high, seat height 37 cm (approximately 26 x 26 x 28.3 in, SH 14.6 in).
