Information

This set of twelve dining chairs, model PK-9, was designed by Poul Kjærholm and produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark circa 1986. The design exemplifies Kjærholm’s refined approach to furniture, characterized by the use of high-quality materials, structural clarity, and an emphasis on both function and aesthetics.

Each chair features a seat shell upholstered in original natural leather, which has developed a rich patina over time. The leather is molded into an ergonomic shape, providing both visual elegance and comfort. The base is crafted from flat stainless steel, shaped into three curved legs that form a stable yet visually light structure. The connection between the seat and the base is achieved through a discreet yet highly engineered mounting system, ensuring durability and precision.

Poul Kjærholm was a Danish designer known for his ability to merge industrial materials with organic forms. His designs often explored the sculptural potential of steel while maintaining a minimalist and functional aesthetic. Fritz Hansen, a leading Danish manufacturer, is renowned for its production of iconic modernist furniture, ensuring that Kjærholm’s vision was realized with the highest level of craftsmanship. The PK-9 is one of Kjærholm’s most recognizable chair designs, reflecting his commitment to material integrity and refined proportions.

The dimensions of each chair are 55.5 cm in width, 47 cm in depth, and 76 cm in height (21.9 x 18.5 x 29.9 inches), with a seat height of 41 cm (16.1 inches). The chairs remain in good vintage condition, with signs of usage.
