Fog & Mørup floor lamp

This sculptural floor lamp was produced by Fog & Mørup in Denmark during the 1950s. The design is by an unknown designer, but its formal qualities align with the expressive tendencies of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design, particularly the organic, plantlike forms that became emblematic of the era.

The lamp is executed in solid brass with a brushed finish, giving it a warm golden tone that has developed a soft patina over time. The central support is shaped with a sinuous, undulating profile that rises from a flat, circular base. Three arched arms branch out from the stem at varying heights, each terminating in an adjustable gooseneck segment in brass. These flexible sections allow for directional lighting adjustments and offer a visual rhythm reminiscent of natural botanical growth.

Each arm is fitted with a matte opaline glass shade, softly rounded and tapering at the opening. The shades are visually balanced and consistent in form, diffusing light evenly and creating a mellow, ambient glow when lit. The combination of brass and opaline glass reflects the materials favored by Fog & Mørup for their lighting throughout the mid-20th century, blending functionality with a subdued elegance.

Fog & Mørup was one of Denmark’s leading lighting manufacturers during the postwar period, producing innovative and stylistically diverse fixtures in collaboration with notable designers such as Jo Hammerborg. Although the specific designer of this piece remains unidentified, the lamp’s fluid silhouette and balanced asymmetry are hallmarks of the company’s design ethos during the 1950s.

The lamp remains in very good vintage condition. The brass surfaces show age-related wear and oxidation, consistent with decades of use, while retaining their structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. The opaline glass shades are intact and free from cracks or chips.
