Börje Johanson bar stools
This is a set of four bar stools designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Sweden during the 1960s. Each stool features a circular, disc-shaped seat upholstered in dark brown leather with a central button tufting, creating a subtle concave surface that provides both visual softness and ergonomic comfort. The leather shows signs of age and use consistent with their vintage status, exhibiting minor creasing and patina while remaining in good, stable condition.
The stools stand on a single pedestal stem of brass-coated metal, culminating in a broad, trumpet-shaped base that provides stability and reflects the influence of space-age and modernist aesthetics of the mid-20th century. Each stem includes an integrated ring footrest, also finished in brass, which complements the structure and enhances functionality. The brass components have aged naturally, with visible tarnishing and surface wear, which adds to their vintage character.
Börje Johanson was a Swedish designer known for his functional yet sculptural seating designs that became emblematic of Scandinavian modernism.
