Søren Willadsen box
This rare liqueur box was produced by Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik in Denmark and includes original glassware manufactured by Holmegaard. Crafted from richly grained rosewood, the box features precise joinery with dovetailed corners, a beveled edge top, and a minimalist rectangular form that subtly tapers downward. The exterior surface exhibits a highly figured grain pattern, typical of old-growth rosewood, with a lustrous and well-preserved finish. The piece is designed as both a functional bar accessory and a discreet storage object, reflecting the Danish modern ethos of refined utility.
The lid opens to reveal a carefully partitioned interior lined with smooth black leather. The interior layout is custom-fitted to hold four liqueur bottles and six glasses, all made from clear, hand-blown glass with fine stems and delicate curvature. The lockable top and inset brass hinges underscore the cabinetmaker’s emphasis on durability and discretion. The handles, which are slot-cut into the short sides, maintain the clean visual rhythm of the box while allowing for easy portability.
Søren Willadsen Møbelfabrik was known for producing high-quality woodwork in collaboration with some of Denmark’s most accomplished designers and artisans. This piece, while unsigned by a specific designer, exemplifies the exacting standards and advanced joinery characteristic of the Willadsen workshop. The glassware, made by Holmegaard—one of Denmark’s oldest and most esteemed glass manufacturers—adds an additional layer of provenance and sophistication. Holmegaard’s tradition of glass production dates back to the 1820s and became especially influential during the mid-20th century under designers like Per Lütken.
This liqueur set remains in excellent condition. The rosewood retains its original depth and richness, and the interior is clean and undamaged. The glassware is complete and well-matched to the custom compartments.
