Floor lamp
This floor lamp was produced by Elit AB in Sweden during the 1960s. The lamp features a sculptural brass stand constructed from a repeated sequence of flared, disc-like elements stacked vertically, creating a rhythmic architectural column. The brass has developed a natural warm patina over time, highlighting the form’s depth and reflective qualities. The structure rests on a wide circular base that ensures stability and emphasizes the lamp’s vertical presence.
The lamp is completed with a white pleated fabric shade, which softens the brass’s intensity and provides a balanced contrast of materials. The shade diffuses the light evenly, casting a warm glow while maintaining a classic mid-century Scandinavian aesthetic. The interplay between the strong geometric brass body and the soft textile shade reflects the design tendencies of the 1960s, where bold sculptural forms were paired with traditional elements to create functional yet striking lighting objects.
Elit AB was part of Sweden’s strong postwar lighting industry, producing high-quality lamps with a focus on craftsmanship and modern design. Their work often reflected the international design movement of the time, while maintaining a distinctly Scandinavian approach to materiality and proportion.
The lamp measures 47 cm in diameter and 130 cm in height (approximately 18.5 x 51.2 inches). It remains in excellent condition, with the brass surface showing only minor age-related wear consistent with careful use. The fabric shade is well preserved and included with the piece. This lamp exemplifies mid-century Swedish design through its combination of sculptural form, material richness, and functional light quality.
