Information

This very rare pair of wall lamps, model 329, was designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden, during the 1940s. The lamps are composed of brass wire detailing arranged in a floral motif, mounted on softly pleated fabric shades. The floral decoration is rendered in fine brasswork, with a stylized flower and leaves tied with a ribbon-like element, creating a delicate and decorative composition that is typical of Bergström’s early Swedish modern designs.

Hans Bergström, founder and artistic director of Ateljé Lyktan, played an essential role in shaping Swedish lighting design in the mid-20th century. His early works, such as this pair, combined elements of traditional craftsmanship with a modernist sensibility, often incorporating fabric and metal in elegant and innovative ways. The model 329 demonstrates his sensitivity to both form and atmosphere, producing a warm and diffused light that emphasizes the vertical pleating of the shades.

The lamps retain their original fabric and brass construction, both showing signs of usage and natural patina that highlight their age and authenticity. The fabric has aged evenly, and the brass has developed a warm tone, enhancing the character of the pieces without detracting from their function or beauty.

Each lamp measures 13 x 9.5 x 51 cm (5.1 x 3.7 x 20.1 inches).
