Information

Rare outdoor wall lamp model 1024 designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden during the 1940s. This model is a characteristic example of Bergström’s early work, where traditional craftsmanship and functionalist ideals are combined in a restrained yet highly distinctive form.

The lamp is executed in copper with a naturally aged surface that has developed a deep, nuanced patina over time. The wall plate is circular with visible screws, from which a softly curved arm extends outward in an elegant S-shaped movement. The curvature gives the lamp a sculptural presence while ensuring practical projection from the wall, making it suitable for entrances and exterior facades.

The shade consists of a tapered glass body in a soft, lightly tinted tone, held between copper fittings. Above the glass sits a ventilated copper top with vertical slits and a gently domed cap. This construction allows heat to escape while protecting the light source from rain, reflecting the functional requirements of outdoor lighting in the 1940s. When illuminated, the glass diffuses the light into a warm and atmospheric glow, while the perforated top creates subtle light variation around the upper section.

Hans Bergström, founder of Ateljé Lyktan, was instrumental in shaping Scandinavian lighting design during the mid-20th century. Model 1024 demonstrates his ability to merge durability, technical function, and aesthetic refinement in a cohesive design suited for the Nordic climate.

The lamp measures 20 cm in width, 34 cm in depth, and 42 cm in height (7.9 x 13.4 x 16.5 inches).

It remains in good vintage condition with signs of usage consistent with age. The copper shows attractive oxidation and patina, and the glass is intact with minor wear. The overall impression is authentic and well-preserved, with a beautiful aged surface that enhances its character.
