Pierre Forssell candlesticks

This set of six candlesticks was designed by Pierre Forssell and produced by Skultuna in Sweden. Made entirely in brass, the pieces present a compact modular format with a strong geometric identity, combining precise angular planes with a warm metallic surface. Each unit is constructed as a small square block with a sculpted top section formed into a faceted crown-like shape, creating a clear interplay between sharp edges, symmetry, and reflected light.

The design is based on repetition and configurability. Each candlestick can be used individually, but the square footprint allows them to be arranged as a continuous row or grouped into larger formations. The recessed candle socket is positioned centrally within the folded geometry, and the sloping planes guide wax drips inward rather than outward, giving the object a technically practical function in addition to its sculptural quality.

Pierre Forssell was an influential Swedish designer active during the mid-20th century, recognized for a modernist approach that often emphasized clarity of form, technical refinement, and an architectural sense of proportion. His work frequently bridged industrial production and sculptural expression, and his designs for brass objects are closely associated with the Scandinavian tradition of functional metalwork interpreted through modernist geometry.

Skultuna is one of Sweden’s most historically significant metal producers, established in 1607 and known for long-standing expertise in brass casting and finishing. Their production has consistently combined industrial precision with high material standards, resulting in objects designed for long-term use and patination over time.

The set is in good vintage condition with visible signs of use. The brass surfaces show wear, surface marks, and natural patina consistent with age, handling, and polishing, all of which contribute to the characteristic tonal variation seen in untreated or lightly maintained brass.
