Arthur Pettersson candlesticks

This rare set of eleven candlesticks was designed by Arthur Pettersson and produced in Kolbäck, Sweden during the 1950s. Executed in solid brass, the set demonstrates the refined yet highly functional approach typical of Swedish mid-century metalwork, where precision machining and restrained sculptural form were combined into compact domestic objects.

Each candlestick is formed as a rounded geometric block with a circular opening through the body, creating a ring-like silhouette with softly faceted outer edges. A vertical pin is centrally placed to hold the candle, while the open interior provides both visual lightness and an architectural negative space. The brass surfaces have a warm golden tone with subtle variation, and the polished finish emphasizes the sharpness of the form and the crisp transitions between the planes.

Arthur Pettersson is known for his production of modernist brass objects in Sweden, often characterized by minimal forms with strong proportions and carefully resolved details. His designs are typically compact and weighty, with an emphasis on balanced geometry and a material-driven aesthetic.
