Floor lamp
Low floor lamp produced in Denmark during the 1960s. The design reflects the experimental and material-driven approach that characterized much Scandinavian lighting of the period, where natural fibers and simple metal structures were combined to create warm, atmospheric light objects.
The lamp consists of a cylindrical shade constructed from tightly stretched hemp string, wrapped vertically around an inner structure. The coarse texture of the natural fiber gives the surface a rich, tactile quality and a warm brown tone that shifts subtly depending on the light. The shade is supported by a minimalist black lacquered steel frame that forms both the vertical supports and the slender tripod legs. The construction is simple and functional, yet sculptural, with the black metal lines framing the organic volume of the shade.
When lit, the hemp string filters the light into a soft, golden glow, creating a rhythmic play of vertical lines and subtle shadows on surrounding surfaces. The open top allows light to escape upward, enhancing the ambient effect and emphasizing the lamp’s cylindrical form. The contrast between the industrial black steel and the natural fiber shade is typical of Danish modern design from the 1960s, balancing raw materiality with clean structural lines.
Diameter 27,5 cm (10.8 inches). Height 69 cm (27.2 inches).
In good vintage condition with small signs of usage and minor wear consistent with age. The hemp string remains intact with natural variations and light fraying typical for the material, contributing to the lamp’s authentic character.
