Planter pot

Rare Art Deco planter in brass, dating from the 1930s. With its strongly architectural construction and dramatic flared silhouette, the piece is a particularly decorative example of European metalwork from the interwar period.

The planter is composed as a stylised flower, with overlapping panels rising from a geometric, star-shaped base. Alternating broad and narrow sections create a rhythmic, faceted surface, while the upper edges open outward like petals. Viewed from above, the construction becomes especially striking, revealing the symmetrical, almost starburst-like arrangement of the individual elements.

The design is characteristic of the Art Deco fascination with geometry and the abstraction of natural forms. Rather than reproducing a flower literally, the maker has reduced the motif to a series of angular planes, stepped contours and sweeping curves. The result combines the decorative exuberance of the period with a distinctly sculptural quality.

Executed in brass, the surface has developed a rich and varied patina over time, with areas ranging from warm golden tones to deeper brown oxidation. Small marks, spots and irregularities remain visible throughout and give the metal an appealing sense of age and authenticity.

Originally intended as a planter or cachepot, the piece also works beautifully as a standalone decorative object or vessel. Its unusual construction and expressive silhouette make it particularly effective when viewed from several angles.

Good vintage condition with signs of use and naturally developed patina consistent with age.
